statement

Like many of today’s fine art photographers, Steve originally used film and a darkroom to make his images. He eventually transitioned to digital cameras and processing to create his stylized photographs - always acknowledging that vision, composition, lighting and the story to be told is more important to the art than the tools to create it. He is of the school and is inspired by the work of other photographers such as Steve McCurry, Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and Michael Kenna.

Steve makes images in both color and black and white, with a focus on landscapes, cityscapes, travel and abstract art photography. His work has evolved over the years as his interests have changed with life experiences.

Steve’s work is regularly shown in juried and group exhibits and is on display in fine art galleries, including those listed on this page. He enjoys meeting visitors to his shows and speaking about his images. His work is represented by Gallery 71 (www.gallery71.com) and The Works Gallery in New York City, and Saatchi Art.

Steve writes for magazines (including Photo Technique, FujiLove and The Handmade Photograph), conducts workshops and individual customized training sessions, and publishes eBooks and Folios (see examples on this site).

The management of the very popular and respected Armonk Art Show selected Steve as a judge for their show on September 29-30, 2018.

Steve was excited to hear that his images were selected for the production set of “The Affair” - a popular television series on the Showtime Network.
